Dhaka, March 22 (Xinhua) — At least 12 people were killed and about 20 others injured on Sunday when a train collided with a passenger bus at a railway crossing in Comilla district in eastern Bangladesh, local police said.

According to her, the accident occurred around 3:00 a.m. local time in Sadar-Dakshin sub-district. A mail train traveling to Chittagong collided with a bus crossing the tracks.

Rescuers urgently arrived at the scene and took the victims to the local medical college hospital.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials say several commissions have been formed to determine the cause of the disaster.

Train services on the Dhaka-Chittagong route were suspended but resumed after the tracks were cleared, railway officials said.
