WASHINGTON, March 20 (Xinhua) — The Pentagon will send three more warships and about 2,200 to 2,500 Marines to the Middle East, marking the second deployment of U.S. Marine forces to the region in a week of escalating U.S.-Israel tensions with Iran.
US officials confirmed Friday that the USS Boxer and two other amphibious ships, as well as Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, have departed their home port in San Diego, California, and are heading to the Middle East, US media reported.
