Brussels, March 19 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called on the United States and Israel to end the war and advocated for diplomacy to replace military action.
"The time has come to end this war," Antonio Guterres said, addressing reporters in Brussels during a European Council meeting. He noted that the conflict unleashed by the United States and Israel risks spiraling "completely out of control," while simultaneously "causing enormous suffering to civilians."
A. Guterres also said that the consequences of the war extend far beyond the battlefield, warning of “a spillover into the global economy that is truly dramatic, with potentially tragic consequences, particularly for the least developed countries.”
“The time has come for diplomacy to triumph over war,” the UN Secretary-General added.
