Moscow, March 18 (Xinhua) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, on Tuesday. Both sides expressed their readiness to ensure the security of energy pipelines between the two countries.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that an exchange of views on the situation surrounding Iran took place. Russia's principled position on the need for a swift de-escalation of the crisis provoked by Israeli and US strikes against the Islamic Republic and its reliance on non-violent political and diplomatic methods was outlined. Russia's readiness to fully facilitate a settlement and coordinate efforts, including with Turkey, to reduce tensions in the region was expressed.

"Current aspects of the bilateral agenda were also discussed, with an emphasis on the need to create conditions for the uninterrupted operation of strategic Russian-Turkish energy projects. In particular, in light of the Kyiv regime's ongoing attempts to damage the Blue and Turkish Stream gas pipeline infrastructure, particular attention was drawn to the absolute importance of ensuring comprehensive pipeline security," the Russian diplomatic mission said in a statement.
