Minsk, March 17 (Xinhua) — The 33rd Minsk International Book Fair opened in Belarus on Tuesday. Around 500 exhibitors from more than 20 countries are participating, including Brazil, Venezuela, Iran, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Moldova, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan. The event's central themes are the 35th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Year of Belarusian Women.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko sent a message of greetings to the forum's participants and guests. It stated that for many years, the exhibition has been a long-awaited and significant event in the fields of literature and publishing, bringing together professionals and enthusiasts of the printed word from around the world.
"I am convinced that the book forum, timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the CIS, will strengthen the potential for international cooperation, reveal new names, and present exciting projects aimed at developing publishing and promoting the spiritual and moral values of the Commonwealth," the Belarusian leader noted in his address.
At the opening ceremony, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev stated that, despite the development of digital technologies, the printed book remains a symbol of life. He noted that over the past years, the exhibition and fair has become one of the most significant and vibrant events not only in the Belarusian book industry but also internationally. Each year, major publishing houses from various countries showcase their best achievements at its venues.
The 33rd Minsk International Book Fair will run in the Belarusian capital until March 22. –0–
