JERUSALEM, March 17 (Xinhua) — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that it carried out precision airstrikes in Tehran, killing Basij militia commander Gholamreza Soleimani and Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani.
The latter was considered a key figure in Iran following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on February 28.
Citing security sources, Israeli state television channel Kan TV News and other media reported that another target of the strikes was Akram al-Ajuri, the head of the Islamic Jihad group's military wing. He is believed to have been killed.
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office released a photo of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaking on the phone, allegedly "ordering the assassination of senior Iranian regime officials."
