BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) — China will expand the number of its pilot cities in a cross-border trade facilitation campaign from 25 in 2025 to 45 in 2026, the General Administration of Customs (GAC) said Monday.

The six-month campaign was jointly launched by the State Technical University and 23 other agencies and departments.

Sun Meijun, head of the NTU, said 20 cities had been added to the updated list, including Hohhot, Changchun, Suzhou, Jinhua, Quanzhou, Nanchang, Yantai, Wuhan, Changsha, Zhuhai, Nanning, Kunming and Xi'an.

The campaign will introduce a range of new measures aimed at modernising trade in goods, developing trade in services, and promoting digital and green trade.

These measures include innovation in customs supervision and management, optimization of services for new forms of foreign trade, improvement of cross-border logistics efficiency, promotion of the construction of digital and intelligent checkpoints, strengthening connectivity in standardization, and improving one-stop service for enterprises.

Another official from the State Customs Office stated that promoting the simplification of cross-border trade procedures is essential for expanding openness, strengthening cooperation, and ensuring the smooth functioning of the dual economic circulation—domestic and international. This is not only an effective measure that allows companies to stabilize order volumes, expand markets, and improve profitability amidst changes and uncertainty in the international environment, but also a concrete step in China's support for the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and the multilateral trading system.

Since 2018, the GTU has been organizing annual campaigns to simplify cross-border trade procedures, having announced a total of 144 measures by 2025, with 110 of these measures being extended nationwide. -0-
