WASHINGTON, March 16 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday he believes the war with Iran is unlikely to end this week, but reiterated that the conflict will end "soon."
Asked by a reporter at the White House whether the war could end as early as this week, Donald Trump said, "I don't think so. But it will be soon." "It won't take long. It will all be over soon," he added.
The president also said he would "soon" announce a list of countries that have agreed to join the White House-proposed coalition to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway through which about 20 percent of the world's oil passes.
"There are a couple of [countries]. We'll announce their names soon. Some of them immediately expressed their willingness," he said.
However, according to available information, many US allies took an ambiguous position or refused to participate in the operation. –0–
