BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) — China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released an indicator for the first time that measures online retail sales, replacing its previous online retail sales indicator, NBS spokesperson Fu Linghui said on Monday.
The new indicator marks a major change in the release of consumption-related data this year, Fu Linghui said at a press conference.
According to him, the main difference between the two indicators is that the new indicator expands the statistical coverage of online service platforms and strengthens the measurement of retail sales of services via the internet.
The previous online retail sales indicator consisted primarily of two components: the volume of online retail sales of physical goods and the volume of online retail sales of non-physical goods. The former primarily reflected online sales of goods, while the latter reflected the retail sale of services on key platforms.
After adjustment, the total volume of online retail sales of goods and services exceeded the previous online retail sales figure, which is mainly due to the inclusion of additional online retail sales of services, Fu Linghui noted.
The State Statistics Service will continue to strengthen its work on statistical monitoring of market sales to better reflect consumption trends and provide high-quality statistical information for all sectors of society, Fu Linghui added. -0-
