Moscow, March 16 (Xinhua) — The Russian government has approved an action plan for the development of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence algorithms, grid technologies, and supercomputer infrastructure in the country. This was reported on Monday by the government press service, citing Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Fast computing systems are now a key factor in progress in virtually every field, he noted: from the creation of new materials, equipment, and effective drugs to accurate weather forecasting. In 2024, the Russian President set the goal of increasing the combined power of Russian supercomputers tenfold by 2030.

The head of government stated the importance of establishing uniform requirements for computing centers and developing a strategy for a next-generation national research computer network that would unite hundreds of leading universities and research organizations. Such a network would help scientists conduct research that requires processing and transmitting large volumes of data.

Achieving all of these goals will require a large number of highly qualified specialists. M. Mishustin emphasized that special attention must be paid to their training.
