URUMQI, March 16 (Xinhua) — During spring frosts, flower farmers sort, pack and place roses in boxes at a horticultural industrial park in Qapqal Xibo Autonomous County, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The Khorgos border crossing is located on the Chinese-Kazakh border. Flowers and seedlings grown in Xinjiang are of high quality, and the related sector is characterized by constantly improving supply chains. This allows these plant products to be widely sold in Central Asian countries and has earned widespread recognition among international customers. This is further reinforced by convenient customs clearance at the crossing, the geographical proximity of the regions, and high demand on the international market.
Khorgos Jinghan Ecological Landscape Co., Ltd., based in Khorgos, cultivates over 1,300 species of flowers and seedlings. Its CEO, Zhang Junzhu, said that the company is currently in peak export season and is working diligently to stock up on supplies for buyers in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. He added that the company has exported over 7 million seedlings in recent years.
To ensure the successful export of flowers and seedlings, Khorgos Customs opened a "green corridor" for the priority inspection of fresh and perishable agricultural products, which increased the efficiency of their export by 50 percent and helped reduce costs for businesses.
Local customs official Abdulhalil Abdulhalik noted that day-to-day supervision of fresh flower farms has also been strengthened, and assistance has been provided to relevant enterprises in establishing robust quality control systems and enhancing their capacity for crop management, as well as the prevention and control of insect pests and diseases.
