Hanoi, March 15 (Xinhua) — Elections for members of the 16th National Assembly and people's councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term began in Vietnam on Sunday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Polling stations across the country opened at 7:00 AM local time and will close at 7:00 PM. Nearly 79 million voters are expected to cast their ballots at 72,195 polling stations across Vietnam.
Citizens will elect 500 deputies to the 16th National Assembly from a field of 864 candidates, and will also vote for members of people's councils at the commune and provincial levels.
Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Manh noted that the election results should be announced no later than March 25, VNA reports.
