Riyadh, March 15 (Xinhua) — Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi said on Saturday that the organization fully supports political and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, Al Arabiya News reported.
J. al-Budaiwi told Saudi media that the future of the region depends on dialogue and a political settlement, adding that GCC member states are working with the international community to contain the situation.
He said diplomacy remains the best way to resolve current tensions and that protecting sea lanes is a shared international responsibility.
Calling Iran's strikes on the Gulf states unacceptable, J. al-Budaiwi welcomed the UN Security Council's condemnation of the attacks.
He also said that the GCC countries have repeatedly assured Tehran that they will not allow their territories to be used as a springboard for hostile actions against Iran. –0–
