WASHINGTON, March 14 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said on social media on Saturday that "many countries" would send warships to keep the Strait of Hormuz open, but gave no details.
“Many countries, especially those impacted by Iran’s attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz, will join the United States in sending warships to keep the Strait open and secure,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, on March 12 called for a continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's oil passes, and vowed to open new fronts in his country's military conflict with the United States and Israel.
