Registration for the sixth edition of The Blue Ocean Open Polytech Entrepreneurship Competition 2026, a youth competition for entrepreneurial and business ideas, is now open. Blue ocean strategy is a strategy for creating competition-free markets developed in the early 2000s by INSEAD business school professors Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne.
During the competition, participants learn the five core analytical tools of blue ocean strategy on an online platform, apply them to solve practical cases, and develop their entrepreneurial ideas. The competition is designed for those who want to understand how to create a product based on the concept of value innovation, whereby consumers gain new value and producers reduce costs.
Over the six years of the competition, more than 1,000 people have participated. This year, 165 participants—college and university students, as well as graduate students—registered. They formed teams of up to four people.
The competition is held in two stages remotely. The first stage involves studying the fundamentals of blue ocean strategy and solving a practical task on its application. This stage runs from March 2 to 31. The results are scheduled to be announced from April 1 to 7. The announcement of the results will be on April 8.
The second stage involves developing a blue ocean strategy for your startup, entrepreneurial idea, or generating an idea from scratch. It runs until April 20th. The results will be announced between April 21st and 28th.
The announcement of the competition results is scheduled for April 29. The awards ceremony for the winners will take place in May.
The presentation format of the results includes video presentations of the project and case solution.
This year, the competition organizer, the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics, and Trade, provided a prize fund of 140,000 rubles from the "Economic Education" endowment fund of the SPbPU Endowment Fund to award the winners. The competition is also supported by the Polytech Foundation for Innovation Support and Development, the Higher School of Technological Entrepreneurship, and the Advanced Engineering School "Digital Engineering" of SPbPU.
Prizes for teams of up to four people are: first place – 60,000 rubles, second place – 40,000 rubles, and third place – 20,000 rubles. The prize for the most technologically advanced project is 20,000 rubles. A special prize of 20,000 rubles for the "Captain of the winning team" was provided by the competition partner. LLC "PSS"The company's CEO is Pavel Balobanov. The company is a leader in the Russian market in strategic consulting and business process digitalization for organizations in the construction industry.
All team members will receive certificates, and the winners will receive diplomas and additional points for admission to the Polytechnic University's master's program in the IPMEiT program without exams based on winning the portfolio competition: winners – 60 points, runners-up – 40 points.
