UN, March 12 /Xinhua/ — The fundamental way to avoid a deterioration of the situation is to end US-Israeli military operations. China's Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, stated this on Wednesday while explaining his position on the draft UN Security Council resolution on the situation around Iran.
"China is deeply concerned about the rapid escalation of the situation in the Persian Gulf region, which could push the entire Middle East into a dangerous abyss," the Chinese diplomat noted.
The sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Gulf Arab states must be fully respected, Fu Cong emphasized. "China does not support Iran's attacks on the Gulf Arab states and condemns all indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets," the Permanent Representative stated.
According to him, the continuation and escalation of the conflict is not in the interests of either side. "China reiterates its call for an immediate end to military action to prevent further escalation and avoid the spread of the conflict," Fu Cong said.
“The parties concerned should return to the correct path of dialogue and negotiation as soon as possible and resolve their differences through equal dialogue,” he explained, adding that China is willing to continue to cooperate with countries in the region and the international community in the interests of peace to promote an early resolution of the conflict and the restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East. –0–
