Specialists urban economy complex Work has begun on replacing elevators in residential buildings as part of the 2026 regional capital repairs program. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing, Utilities, and Public Works Petr Biryukov.
"A large-scale elevator upgrade program was developed and approved at the direction of the Moscow Mayor. During its implementation, more than 52,300 new elevators were installed in apartment buildings. This year, we will replace a total of over 5,500 elevators, with the program having begun in all administrative districts," noted Pyotr Biryukov.
Compliance with elevator operating life is under special control, as this is high-risk equipment that requires regular technical inspections and timely replacement.
Since 2018, elevators in buildings operated by the regional operator have been replaced strictly in the year their 25-year service life expires, with no additional extensions. Specialists dismantle the old equipment and install new elevators. If a building has several elevators, they are replaced one at a time to ensure residents experience minimal inconvenience. The work utilizes domestically produced equipment that fully complies with modern safety and comfort requirements.
