WEBUYE, Kenya, March 10 (Xinhua) — At least 14 people were killed and 16 others injured in a road accident Monday evening in western Kenya, local police confirmed on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at approximately 21:45 local time /18:45 GMT/ in the Malaha area on the Webuye-Kitale highway.

According to preliminary reports, two motorcyclists collided head-on, killing both instantly. As pedestrians gathered at the scene to offer assistance, a truck traveling from Kitale to Webuye drove into the crowd. Ten people died instantly.

Four more people later died in hospital from their injuries. Sixteen of the injured remain in critical condition.
