Brussels, March 10 (Xinhua) — The European Union (EU) is closely monitoring rising energy prices amid disruptions related to the war in the Middle East, European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said at a press conference on Monday.
The EU is monitoring developments in global energy markets with concern, but the bloc does not face an immediate threat of oil or gas supply shortages, noted A.-K. Itkonen.
According to her, EU member states have oil reserves or equivalent reserves sufficient for approximately 90 days.
"We are much less concerned about supply security than we are about high energy prices," she said.
A.K. Itkonen also confirmed that the G7 countries will discuss the possible release of oil from strategic reserves at their meeting on Monday. –0–
