Tbilisi, March 9 (Xinhua) — The Georgian government's goal is to increase the country's installed power plant capacity to 11,500 MW by 2036 and fully meet domestic electricity needs through domestic production. This was announced by Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili at a meeting with energy sector representatives on Monday.
M. Kvrivishvili presented details of a ten-year energy development plan to the business community.
According to her, the first phase of the plan calls for increasing installed capacity by 4,000 MW through solar, wind, and hydropower projects. The second phase, which covers the period from 2032 to 2036, plans to add another 2,750 MW, primarily through large hydropower projects.
