Beijing, March 9 (Xinhua) — Any deliberate attacks on UN peacekeepers are absolutely unacceptable and must cease immediately, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
Guo Jiakun made the statement at a regular press briefing, responding to a question about the recent attack on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon. He noted that China strongly condemns the attack and expresses sympathy to the victims.
"Any deliberate attacks on UN peacekeepers constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. They are absolutely unacceptable and must cease immediately. China calls on the relevant parties to take immediate measures to de-escalate the situation and ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers," the official spokesperson added.
