BEIJING, March 9 (Xinhua) — The election of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's third supreme leader was a decision based on the country's constitution, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
The Chinese diplomat made this statement at a regular departmental press conference in response to a media question, noting that China has paid attention to the relevant reports.
Iran's Assembly of Experts reportedly announced on Sunday that M. Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei, has been elected as Iran's new supreme leader.
