BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) — The development of China-Japan relations depends on Tokyo's choice, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Sunday at a press conference on the sidelines of the 4th session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing.

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. In that special year, Japan should deeply repent for the wrong path it chose, including its brutal aggression and colonial rule in Taiwan, Wang Yi stated.

However, Japan's current leader stated that the emergency surrounding Taiwan could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan, which allows the Japanese side to exercise its so-called right to collective self-defense, the Chinese Foreign Minister noted.

“We call on the Japanese people to be vigilant and not allow those who clearly miscalculated their strength to repeat the bitter experience,” Wang Yi emphasized.

Wang Yi added that a resurgent China with its 1.4 billion people will not allow anyone to justify colonialism and whitewash acts of aggression. -0-
