BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) — China's global governance initiative came at the right time, and it quickly received support and feedback from more than 150 countries and international organizations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Sunday.
The global governance initiative fully meets the common aspirations of the international community and the aspirations of people around the world, Wang Yi noted at a press conference during the 4th session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing.
The Chinese diplomat said that the clearest message of the Global Governance Initiative is that the UN's leadership position must be protected and not undermined, and the UN's central role must be strengthened and not weakened.
“Without the UN, the world would be even worse,” he stressed.
Attempts to create any alternative formats to replace the UN, especially closed groups, are not supported and have no prospects, Wang Yi added.
He said that as one of the founding countries of the UN and a staunch supporter of advancing the cause of the UN, China calls on more countries to join and support this initiative, and to join forces in reviving, protecting and strengthening the UN. -0-
