Dubai, March 7 (Xinhua) — Residents of Dubai and Abu Dhabi (UAE) received an emergency warning on their mobile phones on Saturday morning about a possible missile threat amid ongoing military action in the region.
The UAE Ministry of Interior urged residents to immediately seek shelter in the nearest secure building, stay away from windows, doors, and open spaces, and await further instructions. Authorities urged the public to rely on official channels for the latest news.
Eyewitnesses told local media that loud explosions were heard in both UAE cities on Saturday.
The Ministry of Defense stated that the country's air defense systems are actively responding to missile and drone strike threats from Iran. Officials noted that the loud noises reported by residents were caused by interception operations, not direct strikes on populated areas.
Sirens sounded at around 9:59 a.m. at Dubai International Airport, and again at around 10:05 a.m. Security screening and check-in procedures at the airport were temporarily suspended.
