UNITED NATIONS, March 7 (Xinhua) — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned the incident that occurred a day earlier in which three Ghanaian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were wounded.

Peacekeepers were wounded at their position in southwest Lebanon as a result of intense shelling.

"The Secretary-General stressed that the safety and security of UN personnel and property must be respected at all times and that those responsible must be held accountable," said Stéphane Dujarric, the UN chief's spokesman, in a statement.

The sanctity of UN facilities must be respected by all, said S. Dujarric, adding that the UN Secretary-General wishes the victims a speedy and full recovery.

The UN urges the parties to immediately de-escalate and fully implement their obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 1701 of 2006, he stressed. –0–
