Washington, March 7 (Xinhua) — The U.S. State Department on Friday announced approval of a deal to sell munitions and related equipment to Israel, including 12,000 aerial bombs.

The deal is worth approximately $151.8 million, the agency said in a statement.

Israel has requested the purchase of 12,000 BLU-110A/B general-purpose 1,000-pound bombs, the report said.

“The proposed deal will enhance Israel’s ability to counter current and future threats, strengthen the country’s defense, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats,” the statement said.

On February 28, the US and Israel launched massive airstrikes against Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, several high-ranking military commanders, and hundreds of civilians. Iran responded with several waves of missile and drone strikes against Israeli and US targets in the region.
