Madrid, March 6 (Xinhua) — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Friday said the military action by the United States and Israel against Iran was an "extremely big mistake," rejecting US President Donald Trump's criticism of Spain's refusal to allow the US to use its bases in the country for the ongoing air strike.

"This war is an extremely big mistake for which we will pay," P. Sanches said during a meeting with Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, adding that the conflict is already leading to higher prices.

He reiterated his conviction that the war was being waged outside the bounds of international law and insisted that "among allied countries it is useful to help when one side is right and to point out mistakes when they are made."

L. Montenegro, in turn, pointed out that Portugal “defends diplomacy and negotiations as a way to resolve conflicts.” –0–
