Colombo, March 6 (Xinhua) — A total of 204 people from the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr have been transferred to the port of Colombo, the Sri Lankan Navy announced on Friday.
Sri Lanka Navy spokesman Buddhika Sampath said the IRIS Bushehr was scheduled to arrive at the eastern port of Trincomalee later on Friday.
The Iranian warship IRIS Bushehr was participating in joint naval exercises in India along with the frigate IRIS Dena, which sank off the island's southern coast on Wednesday after a US submarine attack.
A few days ago, the ship requested permission to enter a Sri Lankan port, and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the government had allowed the entry on humanitarian grounds. –0–
