Baghdad, March 5 (Xinhua) — The government of Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region on Thursday denied reports that it had sent Kurdish groups to infiltrate Iran, saying it was not involved in any campaign to exacerbate regional conflicts.

Regional government spokesman Peshwa Hawramani called reports that the region is arming and transporting Kurdish party members to Iran "completely false." He stated that the Iraqi Kurdistan Region government and its political parties are committed to peace and stability.

P. Hawramani also condemned the attacks on Kurdistan, calling on the federal government of Iraq and the international community to ensure the protection of Kurdish territory and civilians.

Earlier in the day, Iran's official news agency IRNA reported that its armed forces had inflicted serious damage on the positions and facilities of "separatist terrorist" groups along the country's western borders during a "preventive" operation. The ministry accused these groups of attempting to infiltrate Iranian territory with the support of the United States and Israel to carry out attacks on urban and border areas.
