Almaty, March 5 (Xinhua) — Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy and Shell Kazakhstan have signed a contract to conduct geological exploration at the Zhanaturmys site in the Aktobe region of western Kazakhstan until 2032, the ministry announced on Thursday.
As stated in the department’s statement, the contract provides for seismic exploration, data collection, and technical assessment in accordance with current regulations and subject to obtaining the necessary permits.
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy did not specify the investment volume, but it is known that over the term of the contract, Shell will allocate at least 100 million tenge (approximately 200,000 US dollars) to finance the socio-economic development of the region where the site is located.
The project will be implemented under the terms of an improved model contract. The work program includes 3D seismic surveys and potential drilling of a deep exploratory well.
The Zhanaturmys site has an area of 1,377 square kilometers and is located in one of Kazakhstan's oil and gas basins. –0–
