At Nikita Mikhalkov's Workshop 12 Theatre, actors from the Chuvash State Puppet Theatre will present the play "King Lear" based on the play by William Shakespeare.
The production depicts the tragic family story of King Lear, who, in his declining years, after years of bearing the weight of unlimited power, his own grandeur, and his unwavering influence over his family and subjects, decides to retire. King Lear, with his own hands, destroys everything that was once dear to him and the meaning of his life. He is left without a kingdom, without a family. Realization comes to him, but too late, when nothing can be undone.
By turning to the work of the great English classic and his immortal tragedy – the family saga of King Lear – the director of the play calls for an important conversation about life and its enduring values.
The performance involves puppets combined with dramatic theatre acting.
Duration: one hour 15 minutes.
