BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) — China's key artificial intelligence (AI) industries will exceed 1.2 trillion yuan (approximately $173.9 billion) in 2025, and AI technologies have become a powerful driver of high-quality economic development, Chinese Minister of Industry and Information Technology Li Lecheng announced on Thursday.
The number of AI enterprises in the country exceeded 6,200 last year, he told reporters at the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC).
AI technologies are increasingly being implemented in factories and everyday life in China. According to the minister, by the end of 2025, more than 30 percent of enterprises with annual revenues of at least 20 million yuan in the country's manufacturing sector will have implemented AI technologies, and Chinese companies will have produced over 300 models of humanoid robots.
Li Lecheng added that AI models developed in China are gaining popularity worldwide: over the past year, China has led the world in the number of open-source AI model downloads.
AI was highlighted in the government work report submitted to the 4th session of the 14th National People's Congress on Thursday.
According to the report, China will create new forms of intelligent economy this year. Specific measures include promoting large-scale commercial application of AI in key areas and industries, launching new infrastructure projects to create ultra-large intelligent computing clusters and ensuring the coordination of computing power and power grids, and accelerating the development of satellite internet.
