Baku, March 5 /Xinhua/ — The press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported on Thursday that Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mujtaba Demirchilu has been summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in connection with the attack by Iranian drones on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to a statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, attacks were launched from Iran on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan around midday on Thursday. One drone crashed into the airport terminal building, and another crashed near a school in the village of Shekerabad.
The statement reads: "We strongly condemn the attacks carried out from Iranian territory, which damaged the airport building and injured two civilians. This attack on Azerbaijani territory is contrary to the norms and principles of international law and leads to increased tensions in the region."
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry demands that Iran provide an explanation as soon as possible and take the necessary immediate measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
