At Nikita Mikhalkov's Workshop "12" Theatre, actors from the K.V. Ivanov Chuvash Academic Drama Theatre will present the play "Narspi," based on the poem by Konstantin Ivanov.
This is a tragic story of love clashing with the harsh laws of patriarchal society. The young and beautiful Narspi, the daughter of wealthy parents, is married not to her lover, the poor Setner, but to the old and cruel rich man Takhtaman. This marriage of convenience, dictated by greed and social conventions, proves fatal for all the characters, inexorably leading to a tragic end.
The fates of Narspi and Setner, the old man Takhtaman, and other characters carry a profound symbolic meaning that goes beyond a single personal drama. Through their stories, the play explores the eternal problems of the human soul: the struggle for freedom and dignity, the conflict between emotion and duty, and the injustice of the established order. This powerful and poignant work still provokes reflection on the value of genuine feelings in a world where they are so often neglected.
Duration: two hours 20 minutes with intermission.
