Ashgabat, March 4 (Xinhua) — The first group of 25 Chinese citizens evacuated from Iran to Turkmenistan on Tuesday departed for home early Wednesday morning local time.

On Tuesday evening, the evacuees arrived at Ashgabat International Airport, the capital of Turkmenistan, where a team from the Chinese Embassy assisted them with flight check-in. Zhong Hua, Chargé d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Turkmenistan, met with the Chinese citizens at the airport, expressing her sympathy and support.

"The motherland will always be a reliable support for Chinese citizens abroad. The Party and government always care about the safety of every Chinese citizen abroad. The embassy supports our Chinese compatriots and does everything possible to ensure their safety," she said, wishing the evacuees a safe and peaceful return home.

According to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Turkmenistan, a group of evacuees entered Turkmenistan through the Serakhs border crossing on Tuesday afternoon local time and then departed on buses provided by the embassy.

Chinese student Ma Hailun, studying in Iran, said in a phone interview with Xinhua: “When we first learned about the war, we were terrified, afraid that shells would fall on us at any moment. Luckily, we quickly contacted the Chinese Embassy in Iran, and our hearts were finally at peace. We felt as if our parents were taking care of us when we were children—it gave us a tremendous sense of security.”

Ma Hailun said that after passing through the Serakhs checkpoint in Turkmenistan, the embassy staff had already taken all the necessary measures. "They did a lot for us and made a tremendous effort. We were very touched and felt truly cared for."

In early March, the Chinese Embassy in Turkmenistan issued a notice and immediately dispatched a task force to the border crossing to provide necessary assistance to Chinese citizens transiting Turkmenistan on their way back to China. The diplomatic mission stated that it will continue to make every effort to assist Chinese citizens evacuated from Iran and facilitate their unimpeded return home.
