BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — China's cultural industry posted solid revenue growth in the first six months of 2025 as the cultural services sector developed steadily and new forms of business continued to flourish, official data showed Wednesday.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the total operating income of leading cultural enterprises from January to June was 7.1 trillion yuan (about 996.9 billion US dollars), up 7.4 percent year on year.
The sector's profits increased significantly during the reporting period, with those of major cultural companies growing by 19.3 percent year-on-year to 629.8 billion yuan, according to the NBS data.
Revenues of enterprises providing cultural services grew by 10.7 percent in the first half of the year, accounting for 55 percent of the total revenue of large cultural enterprises, which is 1.6 percentage points higher than a year earlier.
Cultural services played a strong supporting role, said Pan Xuhua, a statistician with the National Statistical Bureau, adding that the contribution of cultural service companies to the overall revenue growth of large cultural enterprises was 77 percent.
In the industry's new business sector, which includes digital publishing and online advertising, revenue grew 13.6 percent to nearly 3.2 trillion yuan, 6.2 percentage points faster than the overall industry growth rate.
The NCS data was obtained through a survey of leading cultural industry enterprises whose annual revenue exceeds 20 million yuan, as well as companies that meet other standards set by the NCS. -0-
