BEIRUT, March 3 (Xinhua) — Hezbollah on Tuesday said it attacked an Israeli Merkava tank in the northern Israeli border town of Metula, claiming it was hit directly by a guided missile.
In a statement, the movement said the attack took place at 8:30 p.m. local time and was in response to ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanese towns and cities, including the southern suburbs of Beirut.
The situation escalated after several exchanges of fire along the Lebanese-Israeli border. Israeli authorities claim their attacks are directed at Hezbollah's military infrastructure, while the movement itself and Lebanese officials accuse Israel of violating the ceasefire and targeting civilian areas.
