Moscow, March 3 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is making every effort to help de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East. This was stated on Tuesday by the Russian leader's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Putin's phone conversations the previous day with the leaders of Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia regarding the situation surrounding Iran.
"Putin will certainly make every effort to facilitate at least a minor easing of tensions. In this regard, yesterday, with virtually all of our interlocutors, we discussed Putin conveying their deep concern regarding the strikes on their infrastructure to our colleagues in Iran, taking advantage of the dialogue we maintain with the Iranian leadership," TASS quotes Peskov as saying.
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that Russia strictly adheres to the principles of international law, such as respect for sovereign states and non-interference in their internal affairs. "This is the core of our position," Peskov stated, adding that Moscow considers anything else inconsistent with the principles of international law.
