The awards ceremony for the winners of the 9th All-Russian Literary Competition with International Participation, "Star of the Arctic — Umka," took place in Krasnoyarsk. The competition is held annually by the Royev Ruchey Zoo with the support of Rosneft.

This year, young writers aged 5 to 17 from 72 regions of Russia, including Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, and the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts, participated in the competition. The jury also received creative works from China, Belarus, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Cyprus. The goal of the competition is to raise awareness about the conservation of polar bears and other unique Arctic fauna.

During the collaboration between Rosneft Oil Company and the Royev Ruchey Park, the competition's popularity and status have grown significantly. Over the past nine years, the number of submitted entries has increased ninefold. This year, approximately 4,000 entries were submitted for consideration across four age groups and five categories: fairy tales, short stories, poems, essays, and feature stories. The authors of the 125 best works received diplomas, special prizes, and commemorative gifts.

Furthermore, last year, by order of the Russian Ministry of Education, the competition was included in the list of Olympiads and intellectual and creative events in Russia. The names of the winners and runners-up are now included in the national "Talents of Russia" database and the registry of the Russian Educational Center "Sirius." This entitles high school graduates to preferential admission to universities.

Preserving and protecting the polar bear population is a key focus of Rosneft's environmental program. Since 2013, the Company has been caring for all polar bears living in Russian zoos. Currently, Rosneft is the caretaker of 36 polar bears in 16 zoos across the country, providing housing, feeding, veterinary care, enclosure renovations, toy production, and much more.

Since 2012, Rosneft has conducted over 60 large-scale Arctic expeditions, during which scientists assessed polar bear population sizes and their migration routes, and collected and analyzed biosamples from the predators. The information obtained is crucial for the future development of the region, as the polar bear is a bioindicator species for local ecosystems, along with reindeer, Atlantic walruses, and ivory gulls, all of which Rosneft studies.
