Tehran, March 3 (Xinhua) — At least 555 people have been killed since Saturday morning as a result of US and Israeli strikes on Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent Society reported on its website on Monday.

It is noted that the strikes were carried out on 131 Iranian shahrestans.

More than 100,000 rescuers are on full alert across the country, and rescue operations are currently underway, as well as the transportation of the wounded to medical centers, the statement said.

On Saturday morning, Israel and the United States launched joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, several members of his family, senior military commanders, and civilians. Iran responded with several waves of missile and drone attacks against Israel and American bases in West Asia.

According to the IRNA news agency, a girls' school in Hormozgan province in southern Iran came under Israeli and American fire on Saturday, killing at least 165 people and injuring another 95.

In addition, a US-Israeli strike on Sunday night damaged a hospital in northern Tehran, in particular its neonatal ward. –0–
