TEHRAN, March 2 (Xinhua) — Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani said on Monday that Tehran will not negotiate with the United States.

He made the announcement on social media in response to a Wall Street Journal article that claimed he was seeking to return to the negotiating table with the United States.

The US and Israel launched joint strikes on the Iranian capital and several other cities on Saturday morning, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several members of his family, as well as senior military commanders and civilians.

"Donald Trump, guided by 'empty hopes,' has plunged the region into chaos and is now concerned about the increasing casualties among American troops," A. Larijani wrote in a separate post.

"Through his delusional actions, he has transformed his 'America First' slogan into 'Israel First' and sacrificed American soldiers for Israel's ambitions," the Iranian official noted.

"Today, the Iranian people are defending themselves. The Iranian armed forces did not initiate the aggression," he added.

In response to the Israeli and US attacks, Iran launched several waves of missile and drone strikes against Israeli and US bases in the region. –0–
