Moscow, March 1 (Xinhua) — Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was carried out in cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law.

On Sunday, Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to M. Pezeshkian over the death of A. Khamenei. "Please accept my deepest condolences on the assassination of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members, committed in cynical violation of all norms of human morality and international law," the Russian leader's telegram, published on the Kremlin website, reads.

A. Khamenei was killed in attacks by Israel and the United States, Iranian state television reported earlier. According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, he was killed in his office on Saturday morning.
