Dubai, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) — A fire broke out Saturday in a building on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, an iconic artificial island, suspected to have been caused by fallen debris from an Iranian missile.

Earlier in the evening, videos circulating on social media showed a thick column of black smoke rising from the top of the structure, and several loud explosions were reported in the surrounding area.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defence said on Saturday that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed a new wave of missiles and drones launched by Iran towards the country.

According to available information, the UAE has now partially closed its airspace as a precautionary measure. –0–
