LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) — The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Friday announced changes to its Artemis lunar exploration program, adding a mission before the planned crewed lunar landing and delaying the landing from 2027 to 2028.
Under the revised plan, the Artemis 3 mission will test systems and operational capabilities in low Earth orbit in 2027 in preparation for the Artemis 4 mission to land on the moon in 2028, NASA said in a press release.
The Artemis 3 mission is expected to include docking with one or both commercial lunar landers being developed by SpaceX and Blue Origin, in-space testing of the docked vehicles, comprehensive checks of life support, communications and propulsion systems, and testing of new spacewalk suits, NASA said.
