ROME, February 27 (Xinhua) — One person was killed and dozens more were injured when a tram derailed in Milan, northern Italy, on Friday, local media reported.

The accident occurred late in the evening when a Line 9 tram derailed and crashed into a building, killing one person and injuring 40 others, according to a report by the Italian news outlet Corriere della Sera, which also noted, citing eyewitnesses, that the vehicle was traveling at high speed before the collision.

According to the Italian television channel Rai News, a tram derailed in Milan's Porta Venezia district and crashed into a building, killing one passerby. Thirty-nine others were injured, one of whom is in serious condition.
