MINSK, July 30 (Xinhua) — An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was detected and intercepted in the airspace of Belarus, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

The Defense Ministry reported that the air defense duty forces detected and intercepted a UAV flight in Belarusian airspace at about 02:00 local time on July 29. “As a result of exposure to electronic warfare, at 02:33 local time, the UAV crashed near house number 72 on Matusevich Street in Minsk. There were no casualties,” the press service of the country’s military department noted.

In addition, the Belarusian Defense Ministry reported that, given this incident, additional measures are being promptly taken to strengthen control over the use of the country's airspace. An investigation is underway into this fact. "The President of Belarus is keeping the situation under personal control," the country's military department noted.

According to the Investigative Committee of Belarus, it has been preliminarily established that on the night of July 29, an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed without detonation. The drone debris damaged several parked cars and landed on the territory adjacent to the house.

“Fragments of the UAV’s body and wings, engine, navigation devices and a warhead equipped with TNT and a large number of striking elements in the form of metal balls were seized,” the Investigative Committee of Belarus reported. –0–
