Havana, February 26 (Xinhua) — Cuban authorities are maintaining contact with the American side, including the US State Department and the Coast Guard. They expressed their willingness to cooperate in the investigation of the boat incursion into Cuban waters on Wednesday, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said on Thursday.
Cuban authorities will request information from Washington about the individuals involved, the vessel, and other details through existing bilateral mechanisms, the Deputy Foreign Minister noted.
"This is not an isolated incident," the diplomat said. "For more than 60 years, Cuba has been the victim of aggression and countless terrorist attacks, most of which were organized, financed, and carried out from US territory."
C. Fernandez reaffirmed Cuba's absolute and categorical commitment to the fight against all forms of terrorism.
He said the country's counter-terrorism efforts are fully consistent with international law and are a central component of national defense, necessary to protect the country's sovereignty, as well as the lives, security, and well-being of its people.
