GENEVA, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) — A Chinese official on Wednesday strongly rejected groundless accusations against China made by Japan and other countries at a high-level meeting of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
The Chinese representative noted that Japan and some other countries are spreading disinformation about Xinjiang, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong, attacking and denigrating China. He emphasized that China is categorically opposed to such practices and resolutely rejects them.
The PRC representative noted that Xinjiang and Xizang are currently experiencing continuous economic development and social stability, with the rights of all ethnic groups fully protected. Hong Kong, he added, has entered a new era of stability and prosperity following the enactment of the National Security Law.
The Chinese representative pointed out that Japan's baseless claims about human rights conditions in other countries cannot conceal its own dismal record. He recalled that Japan refuses to accept responsibility for historical issues such as the recruitment of "comfort women," ignores concerns raised by UN human rights mechanisms, and attempts to create a "chilling effect" through counter-pressure.
Japan has unleashed aggressive wars and committed grave war crimes, but has yet to seriously rethink its actions, the Chinese representative noted, adding that China calls on the Japanese side to immediately reconsider in order to avoid repeating historical mistakes.
