TEHRAN, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with his Omani counterpart Badr al-Busaidi on Wednesday evening ahead of the third round of indirect Iran-US nuclear talks scheduled for Thursday in Geneva.
The meeting took place shortly after A. Araghchi's arrival in the Swiss city, marking the start of another round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday morning.
During the talks, A. Araghchi outlined Iran's position on the nuclear issue and the lifting of US sanctions, conveying Tehran's views and considerations to the Omani side.
He expressed gratitude to Oman for its role in facilitating the ongoing diplomatic process, stressing that the success of the negotiations depends on the seriousness of the other side's intentions and its refraining from contradictory actions and statements.
In turn, B. al-Busaidi confirmed Oman's readiness to continue supporting efforts to advance diplomatic progress. He also praised Iran's commitment to a diplomatic approach to the nuclear issue and expressed hope that the negotiations would yield satisfactory results.
The third round of talks is taking place amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over the US military buildup in West Asia. The first and second rounds took place earlier this month in Muscat and Geneva, respectively.
